Being a Human

A girl came to me last night.
She told me that she felt weird, because,
she kept pretending being happy and strong, all the times.
I listened to her.
I responded her words with reflective questions,
to let her find her own core problem,
to let her discover her own solution.
After one hour of conversation, however, I did realize;
She was not seeking solution.
Ultimately,
She was only looking for confirmation,
that she is uniquely weird.

It is fascinating, yet tragic, that,
in the attempt to gain a sense of individual significance,
most humans cling themselves to mind-made self-concepts.

“I am weird”

“I am poetic”

“I am friendly”

… and so on, and so on…

They even go as far to strengthen, and to maintain,
their belief about themselves,
by seeking confirmation from others,
by showing themselves consistently with the ideas about themselves–
–ultimately, by being inauthentic and untrue.

So why confine ourselves within a cage of self-concept?
True freedom lies in the absence of identification.

“I am”

… that is all there is.

Having no static belief and ideas about yourself to maintain,
you are freed from necessity to pretend,
and to seek admittance;
you are free to be your true self, and thus,
infinite possibilities open up before you.

That is being a true self.
That is being a true human–
–that is, our true destiny.
