Once there were three blind men,
trying to understand an elephant.
One felt the proboscis; he concluded that elephant is long,
like a snake.
Another touched the ear; and concluded that elephant is thin and wide,
like a giant leaf.
And yet another one held the leg; he concluded that elephant is tall and erect,
like the trunk of a coconut tree.
Three blind men debated,
each felt that he is right, and others are wrong;
they failed to see the bigger picture, the truth of an elephant.
What a pity.
Today, I have seen people from various religions,
and various belief systems,
debated on The Nature of Reality.
Each felt that one is right, and others are wrong;
they failed to understand The One, The All-Inclusive.
What a pity.

A classic story, isn’t it, Shinzen? Yet it doesn’t lose its value. Thank you

Yes, it is a classic, but well worth a reminder
Perhaps the real problem is their desire to understand the nature of reality …. how can the mind know or understand what ‘is’? All those ‘people’ can do is work within the limitations of a mind that is its very own prison …..

Nice addition, Doug… it is because one has to work within limitation of the mind. Just like how those 3 men work with the limitation of their senses.
Anyway, it seems to me that openness leads to higher perspective, closer to “what is”… I’ll post something about this openness later.
Thanks for dropping by, Doug

Hi Rizal,
Brilliant!
No part is bigger than the whole. We are all the microcosm making up the macrocosm.
The Nature Of Reality – the true nature is love.

We are One experiencing Itself from Infinite point of view. We can call this one Love, Tao, Allah… but what truly matters is what the name points to, not the name itself.
